November 2024: Domestic round-up

James Song and Lucy Dodd enjoyed a prosperous November on the Badminton England domestic circuit, with multiple victories across the month.

The U19, U13 and Masters English National Championships all took place in a busy November that also included the Wimbledon U19 Gold and Milton Keynes U15 Gold events.

Here is your round up of all that happened.

U19 English National Championships 2024

James Song claimed a glittering double on the badminton court at the U19 English National Championships.

The second seed overcame a second game fightback from Jason Ou in the open singles final, eventually winning 21-19 21-9 21-16 before clinching mixed doubles gold alongside Matilda Franklin.

Benjamin Horseman and Jia Bin Lee continued their November by taking the open doubles title 21-10 21-13 over Yixian Hou and Jasper Hong while Lucy Dodd and Lilia Dundas crowned themselves women’s doubles champions.

The duo toppled number one seeds Franklin and Lucy Brierley in three games, eventually winning 21-15 18-21 21-15.

Wimbledon U19 Gold 2024

Song and Dodd had already topped the podium at the Wimbledon U19 Gold event earlier in the month.

Song once again took open singles victory, this time in two games against Daniel Wykes while Dodd clinched mixed doubles and women’s doubles wins.

Teaming up with Dundas, the pair were handed victory in the women’s doubles due to a walkover, but Dodd finally tasted victory alongside Jaxon Clarke.

The mixed doubles pair beat Weston Wang and Carly Stevenson 21-16 21-23 21-18.

Wang also won the open doubles title with Vlad Lewis while Aahna Bhatia took women’s singles gold.

U13 English National Championships 2024

Mutiara Mandala was the one to watch at the U13 English National Championships in Milton Keynes.

Mandala won the girls singles with an emphatic 21-12 21-7 triumph over Nok Yi Chui before teaming up with Michelle Chen to also top the girls doubles rankings.

There was a similar story for Arjun Bhattiprolu in the open singles and open doubles, taking both titles and joined by Aayush Reddy for the latter.

But Rory le Masurier and Ava Dodkins thwarted Mandala and Bhattiprolu’s quest for the triple crown, beating the duo 21-19 21-11 in the mixed doubles final.

Milton Keynes U15 Gold 2024

Chloe Fan was the big winner at the Milton Keynes U15 Gold tournament with girls and mixed doubles gold.

Fan and Shreya Urs clinched girls doubles victory over Vedanshi Jain and Mudra Mayekar before Fan was back on the court less than an hour later with Hubert Ceglinski to take the mixed doubles title.

Rasa Novaisaite and Rhys Andrew Williams won their respective girls and open singles events whilst Phil Daniel and Nikhil Pulikkottil won the open doubles.

English National Masters Championship 2024

The 29th edition of the English National Masters Championships took place from 29th November to 1 December in Hatfield.

A staggering 44 champions were crowned, including former England Badminton international and Olympic medallist Joanne Goode MBE, who returned to the championships to take victory in the in U45 women’s doubles alongside teammate Lynne Swan.

Other notable performances saw Joanna Dix clinch the triple crown with victory in the women’s U40 singles, women’s doubles with Sarah Burgess and mixed doubles with Paul le Tocq.
