Gosen G-Tone 5

gosen g tone 5

I’ve had 2 weeks using G-Tone 5 on a Customedge V v2 and X v2. Both at 25lbs. I like it a lot, it sounds great with great power, good control, with a feel on the hard side of medium.

Sound: It’s amazing, probably one of the loudest and best sounding strings out there. The really loud and crisp THWACK sound tell you when you get it just right. Even if I don’t smash hard, it sounds hard.

Control: I was able to place drops and serves very very consistently where I wanted. Smashes were easy to angle down. It’s as good as VS-850 or R4X 110. But fell short of BG66UM because I only had at at 25lbs.

Power: Smashes were easily as powerful as the R4X 110, and I felt it was about as powerful as BG66UM. It was easy hitting powerful snap smashes, so I think people who aren’t power hitters will like this string for the accessible power.

Feel: I’d put it on the hard-side of medium feel. It’s definitely harder than BG66UM, but not as hard as BG80. It has hints of R4X 110, with a slight glassy feel but not quite there. I’ll have to crank up the tension next time.

Durability: I don’t know yet, but Gosen rates it at 9/10, which is the same as the R4X 110 and that one is quite durable.

Tension: After 2 weeks of play, the tension has held steady after an initial small drop.
