Five sets of champions crowned at 2025 English National Badminton Championships
Five sets of national champions have been crowned after an action-packed weekend at the 2025 English National Badminton Championships.
Harry Huang retained his title in the open singles event.
The top seed beat Nadeem Dalvi 21-16 21-9 in the final to claim an impressive victory, having brushed past Sid Palakkal in the semi-finals.
The final of the women’s singles was a thriller that was decided deep into the third and final game.
Top seed Freya Patel-Redfearn won the first game of the final 21-16 but was then pegged back as Leona Lee took the second 21-19.
The pair slugged it out in an epic tussle that was eventually won by Patel-Redfearn, who held her nerve to win the decider 23-21.
New victors were crowned in the open doubles in the shape of Zach Russ and Barney Chua Yue Chern.
Russ and Chua Yue Chern only dropped a game in the first round, where they narrowly defeated Ollie Baczala and Ting Yu Goh.
They were otherwise faultless, taking out highly-fancied Rory Easton and Alex Green 21-18 21-17 in the semi-finals before beating the experienced pair of Greg Mairs and Ethan van Leeuwen in the final.
In the women’s doubles, top seeds Abbygael Harris and Lizzie Tolman withstood a fierce comeback to hold for victory.
Harris and Tolman enjoyed a serene run to the final but were made to work for top spot by Estelle van Leeuwen and Lisa Curtin, running out 21-17 21-23 21-16 winners.
And in the mixed doubles, an eagerly-awaited tussle between Greg and Jenny Mairs and Ethan and Estelle van Leeuwen went the way of the former, who prevailed 21-18 21-13.
