Ben Lane and Sean Vendy headlined English efforts at the YONEX-SUNRISE India Open 2025 as they reached the round of 16 in the men’s doubles.

The duo secured their progression from the round of 32 in the Super 750 event with a dominant win over India’s Chayanit Joshi and Mayank Rana in New Delhi.

The Englishmen got their bidding done in two games to prevail against a home crowd, surging to 21-8 21-14 victory.

In the round of 16, Lane and Vendy faced the unenviable challenge of second seeds Wei Keng Liang and Chang Wang of China.

The pair put up a resilient display after losing the first game 21-15, as they made Liang and Wang work for the necessary two-point difference.

The Chinese duo eventually captured a 24-22 victory in the second game despite Lane and Vendy’s fighting effort.

In the mixed doubles, Callum Hemming and Estelle van Leeuwen were knocked out in the round of 32 to fifth seeds Po-Hsuan Yang and Ling Fang Hu.

Hemming and Van Leeuwen put in a strong performance against the pair from Chinese Taipei, narrowly losing their first game 21-19 before 21-12 defeat in the second game put their hopes of progression to bed.

Gregory Mairs and Jenny Mairs were served a tough draw in the Indian capital as they met second seeds Zhen Bang Jiang and Ya Xin Wei in the round of 32 of the mixed doubles, and were defeated 21-14 21-16 by the Chinese duo.
