Three English singles players made it to the last 16 at the Bonn International in Germany.
Two of those were in the men’s draw as Heng Lin Ngan and Cholan Kayan both won their first round matches.
Ngan came through a tight clash with Matthew Abela 22-20 21-19, while Kayan was a comfortable 21-9 21-17 victor against Indian qualifier Ansal Yadav.
Both were then beaten by players seeded inside the top three, with top seed Tobias Kuenzi beating Ngan in straight games and Kayan going down in three against German third seed Kian-Yu Oei. The Englishman took the opener 21-14 before losing the next two 24-22 21-14.
