The second instalment in the Indonesian double header sees two English pairs in search of redemption at this week’s Indonesia Open.

Eighth seeds Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith begin their mixed doubles campaign against Malaysian duo Chan Peng Soon and Cheah Yee See.

Ellis and Smith lost a hard-fought second round tie against South Korean pair Ko Sung-hyun and Eom Hye-won last week.

They will be hoping to go further than the first round exit they suffered – at the hands of Ko and Eom – in last year’s edition.

Victory could see them face the fourth seeds, Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping, in the second round.

England also have representatives in the men’s doubles as Ben Lane and Sean Vendy look to put together a strong run.

The duo begin their campaign with a difficult fixture against the home pairing of Pramudya Kusumawardana and Yeremia Rambitan, ranked three places above Lane and Vendy in the world rankings.

The English pair will need to produce a vintage performance to advance beyond the first round exit they suffered in the Indonesia Masters last week, when they battled well but ultimately succumbed to world number 23s Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin.

The Indonesia Open is the second of three Super 1000 events before the Tour Finals in December.
