Daniel Bethell led the charge in a brilliant performance from English shuttlers at the first ever Four Nations Para Badminton International in Dublin.

Bethell took the gold in the men’s SL3 one of seven medals in all, including a second gold for the mixed doubles pair of Krysten Coombs and Rachel Choong in the exhibition SH6.

It was a busy final day of action with all the singles finals, three of which feature English para badminton stars.

Bethell produced the performance of the day as he got the better of Paralympic champion Pramod Bhagat, earning some measure of revenge for his Tokyo defeat last year, with a 21-17 21-9 victory.

Elsewhere Jack Shephard was beaten 21-11 21-13 by Hong Kong’s Chu Man Kai in the final of the SH6.

And in the women’s SH6 final, Choong missed out in a hard-fought affair, beaten 21-14 18-21 21-7 by India’s Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan.

Choong had already finished the SH6 mixed doubles with a perfect record of three wins from three in the round robin event alongside Coombs, who fell to Shephard in the semi-finals in the singles in an epic encounter 19-21 22-20 21-19.

In fact, the SH6 mixed doubles podium featured English athletes on every step, with Shephard and Egyptian partner Yasmina Essia in bronze, just pipped by Isaak Dalglish and Polish partner Oliwia Szmigiel.
