I have very old 2 point machine for my school team that has been breaking raquets so looking into a new machine. This is volunteer work and the school most likely has little funds. Any suggestions for good.models that wont break the bank? Second hand is also acceptable.
In NA Gamma machines should be readily available second hand. I think there was one with a warping turntable but can't remember which one. Might want to search the forum for specific recommendations for gamma. I would go for a dropweight machine over a crank, if available. Fixed clamps as well. The savings in broken rackets alone might pay for the machine
Thank you, lowest i can seem to find is 1400 ish with tax and shipping. No second hands in sight haha. I will keep an eye out (northern bc not the most popular pastime)
The cheapest with fixed clamps seem to be around 700 usd new, so second hand 400-500 should be doable? Progression 2 FC or x6fc Europe has some nice stuff for around 500 euros. Pros pro is a popular cheaper brand, I've never touched one, but your milage may vary.
Thanks, ya the pros pro one seemed the most reasonable price i can fine https://www.racquetdepot.co.uk/pros...ScX0FOZvu2jOVYRyUXWI3uSgocMTi09UaApQ4EALw_wcB . Will keep a look out
I own a pro's pro dropweight machine. It is a simple machine, but has a solid construction and seems to be built for durability. It definitely isn't the prettiest machine you can own, but it does the job. If you are looking for a budget option, it is a good choice. I cannot speak for the fixed clamps, because I use flying clamps. I tend to string from 23 to 30 lbs and when pulling, the machine never moves or bends. I have never had trouble with the gripper either. I will guiltily admit that a tinge of smugness hits me when posts come around on the forum of people with more high end machines that have trouble with their gripper, or the mounting system. To be fair, they probably string much more than me, but my pro's pro is nearly 15 years old, and by now has seen close to a thousand rackets. Whatever you decide on, look around the forum for help with technique and habits. There are some very knowledgeable and experienced stringers on here.
For your budget and the volume of rackets you do I think this machine will be suitable enough. The good thing is that if your volume of stringing ever goes up and you enjoy stringing, your machine does have the ability to have parts upgraded with 3rd party parts: 1) Wise 2086 electronic tension head - i've had mine since 2011 - you can service it yourself and order replacement parts - great value 2) Upgraded fixed clamps 3) Upgraded base clamps 4) Upgraded supports. (all of the above i did to my machine - and added a personal touch. It's similar to you buying a stock PC/car and upgrading individual parts)
Canadian Eh!! Try Craigslist? Anybody selling a stringing machine probably isn't the shadiest of people. If you can find an Ektelon or a Prince Neos. Those are pretty realiable cheap old machines that I started on. Stay away from Egnas, I only hear horror stories. Sent from my SC-01L using Tapatalk
